The series takes place years after the race in the poem and follows the lives of the McGregor Clan. It explores the trials and tribulations of Matt McGregor, a widowed father, raising his three children; Colin (the town preacher), Rob and his daughter Danni (Daneilla). Matt frequently finds himself battling against those who set out to exploit the local population and the land, whilst stuggling with more personal issues that are closer to home.

It is set during the early 19th-century in the township of Paterson's Ridge in Australia's Snowy Mountains. This series was also known as: Banjo Paterson's - The Man From Snowy River.

Filmed in the beautiful highlands of the Snowy Mountains, the series takes you into the heartland of an epic pioneering era and a mythology entrenched in Australia's colonial experience.
